Five-Mile Feature Decided By A Tenth Of A Second!

Belleville, Kansas (July 3, 2023) – The first feature of the Monday night program came down to an old fashioned Kansas/Nebraska showdown on the Short Track. Steve Swarthout of Beatrice, Nebraska held the lead as the 18-car field clicked off the laps. Fairbury’s Lee Horky and Belleville’s Tyler Frye caught the leader with four laps left and shuffled Swarthout back to third-place on Lap 17. Horky held a slight lead as he ripped the top shelf of the ¼-mile oval. Frye battled door-to-door holding the low groove as the pair raced to the checkered flag. By aid of the transponders, the final separation at the end of the 20-lap feature was a scant .101 of a second with Horky crossing the line in first. Frye, Lance Borgman, Swarthout, and Zach Nitsch rounded out the Top-Five. Heat race winners were Tyler Watts, Terry Richards, Jr., and Borgman.
